Clay roof tiles are a clear favourite among our customers for their appearance. High-quality coatings can keep a roof looking attractive for many years. If we want a high-gloss finish, the thickest glazes can guarantee that the roof looks new for decades. If we prefer a matt roof, we can choose engobes in various colours or reduction firing. This special technique for firing clay tiles reduces water absorption and guarantees a beautiful, dark grey matt roof for many years, without worries about moss growth.

Classic clay tile roofs

Clay tiles are one of the most classic roof coverings. Several clay tile types have become a permanent feature of regional landscapes. Among the classic shapes, three main types certainly stand out: plain tiles, double-groove interlocking tiles and S-profile tiles.

Plain tiles are certainly one of the most beautiful roof coverings. Their small size allows craftspeople to create all kinds of details, highlighting their skill. They are particularly well suited to elegant, slender detailing on features such as eyebrow dormers and curved roof valleys.

A classic appearance is offered by double-groove interlocking tiles, with their two characteristic depressions. Almost every manufacturer offers this type. The tiles come in different versions and sizes, giving clients plenty of choice.

It is impossible to travel through Warmia and Masuria without noticing roofs that stand out from those in other regions of Poland. Of course, S-profile tiles can be found throughout the country, but they are particularly popular with residents of Warmia and Masuria. Their distinctive deep wave in natural red gives roofs a warm, refined appearance.

These types look very good on both an idyllic country cottage and a manor house. Classic shapes will certainly always suit any type of roof, as classic style never goes out of fashion.

Modern clay tile roofs

Flat clay roof tiles create roofs fit for the XXI century. Sharp edges, simple shapes and a minimalist form combined with a natural material highlight the client’s sense of aesthetics and good taste. Add elegant grey and the result is an austere roof that emphasises the perfect design of the whole building.

If you want to stand out further, variations based on flat tiles are available. These include tiles with a distinctive depression in the centre (e.g. swissporTON KODA, Creaton Optima, Braas Topas, Koramic Reńska Cosmo) or tiles with a visually broken profile. A good example is Koramic Actua 10, which literally changes the roof’s appearance with the time of day and the angle of the light.

Among completely flat tiles, we can choose models such as Meyer-Holsen Piano, recently seen in Gdańsk in an unusual white finish and also available in a distinctive reduction-fired colour worth considering. Another tile that looks very good on the roof is Braas Turmalin, with rounded edges, or its complete opposite, Creaton Domino with razor-sharp edges.

For an unconventional modern roof, an interesting option is to use square-cut plain tiles (e.g. Creaton square-cut plain tiles, Koramic square-cut plain tiles). This gives a traditional covering a fresh look. The square-cut plain tile has a special cut inspired by flat tiles. Its fresh appearance, with a touch of classic style, highlights the distinctive character of any modern building.
