Windows for combination installations

Combination roof windows – more light where one window is not enough

Combination windows are a solution for lofts that need more daylight and a wider field of view than a single roof window can provide. Put simply, instead of one large window, you install a set of several windows combined into one arrangement – side by side horizontally or one above another vertically. The result? A brighter loft that looks larger and is simply more pleasant to use every day.

These combinations work particularly well in loft living rooms, large bedrooms, open mezzanines and studios. They are one of the most attractive ways to open sloping ceilings to daylight, without the complications of dormers.

What combinations are possible?

There are many options, with the arrangement chosen to suit the room and roof structure. Common configurations include:

• horizontal combinations – several windows in one row,

• vertical combinations – windows placed one above another (the higher windows often bring light deeper into the room),

• mixed arrangements, such as an opening window + a fixed element, to provide more light while remaining easy to use.

The right flashings and spacing between windows are crucial to the weathertightness and appearance of the whole arrangement. It is worth planning combinations with specialists rather than judging everything by eye.

Benefits you can feel in your loft

Well-chosen window combinations:

• let in noticeably more daylight and distribute it evenly around the room,

• improve ventilation (depending on the configuration),

• look beautiful both from inside and on the roof,

• can support thermal comfort if fitted with good glazing units.

Proven systems and installation by Ambit

At Ambit, we use combination systems from Fakro, Roto and VELUX – because we know how they perform, how to service them and how to achieve the best result on a particular roof. We help you choose:

• window types (centre-pivot, top-hung and centre-pivot, fixed, etc.),

• the combination layout,

• flashings and installation accessories,

• the best position on the roof slope.

If you wish, we can work through the whole process with you, from choosing a set to professional installation. This gives you confidence that the combination will be weathertight, durable and deliver the daylight you want.

For horizontal combinations, we also recommend VELUX DUO and TRIO solutions: sets of two or three windows installed side by side with one flashing system. They bring panoramic daylight into lofts and work particularly well in living rooms, mezzanines and large bedrooms. We also select larger configurations within VELUX Combi systems, always to suit the roof structure and covering.

Beyond the models shown, we also select other elements of Fakro, Velux and Roto combination systems, fixed or opening, in vertical and horizontal arrangements, always to suit the particular roof and interior needs.
