Roof access windows, also known as roof hatches, are a special type of window installed in the roof slope. Their main purpose is to provide convenient, safe access to the roof rather than bring daylight into the interior. They are used mainly in uninhabited lofts and attics where fire regulations and maintenance requirements call for them. A roof hatch can also simply be a practical solution when you want easy access to a chimney, aerial or roof covering components during inspections.

Unlike conventional roof windows, a roof access window has a simpler construction and focuses on practical use. It usually opens to the side or upwards, creating a convenient passage onto the roof slope.
