PREFA's beginnings date back to post-war Salzburg. Damaged roofs and broken tiles shaped Europe's urban landscape in the mid-40s. Alois Gödl was looking for new materials and ways to create a durable roof. In his workshop, he experimented extensively with various metals, including aluminium. Gödl eventually formed a roofing panel resembling a roof tile, setting roofing innovation in motion. The new product soon appeared on the first roofs, and the PREFA roofs Alois Gödl built in the Salzburg region can still be admired today.
The roofing panel marked the beginning of today's diverse Prefa product range. The first gutters were produced in the 60s. In the 70s, coil coating made attractive appearance a hallmark alongside durability. The development of the roof shingle in the 80s and the rhomboid in the 90s gradually brought the transition from a roofing panel to a roof and façade system. Today, PREFA products are used to build and refurbish classic detached houses, as well as in more demanding settings such as mountain refuges, historic buildings and new architectural projects around the world.
