Hood applications outside the kitchen
The kitchen is the first place that comes to mind for wall-mounted hoods. However, hoods can also effectively extract smoke, steam, aerosols and other airborne pollutants in other rooms. Ceiling-mounted hoods and wall-mounted hoods support ventilation in industrial facilities, for example. They effectively reduce pollutants released during the use of production equipment. Hoods are installed over workbenches in factories and workshops, industrial furnaces, vats and tanks containing loose materials. They are indispensable in rooms where materials are processed by:
- cutting,
- grinding,
- soldering,
- welding,
- polishing,
- bonding,
- mixing chemicals.
For this important part of local ventilation to work properly, the equipment type must suit the location and needs. Selection should take account of the direction in which fumes, gases or dust move. Hood size also matters. Its dimensions should be approximately 20 cm wider than the source of pollutants. The lower edge of a side hood should be no lower than 2,1 m above the floor if air extraction is controlled manually by an employee. Overhead hoods mounted directly above equipment and workstations are usually 1 m away from them.
