Building a house or carrying out a major refurbishment often feels like a bottomless pit. Sometimes we have to give up the solutions we dreamed of. What can we do when our finances force us to choose cheaper windows? The article below explains where we can save and when it is best to buy windows. We also suggest how to find cheaper products that meet our expectations.
The cheapest vertical windows and their specifications
Sometimes we cannot afford windows with the best technical specifications. Does that mean a cheaper product will be worse? Not necessarily. Remember that every window manufactured in Poland by a reputable manufacturer must meet the thermal transmittance requirements laid down in the applicable building regulations. At present, this value is 1,1 W/m²K.
This means that even the cheapest windows from a reputable manufacturer must meet the specified requirements. They do not exceed the applicable thermal transmittance value.
Windows with higher energy performance have a much lower (better) value.
Which window manufacturer should you choose?
When price is your main consideration, it is particularly worth choosing a product from a reputable company. Alongside an attractive price, you can expect high manufacturing quality and a warranty. We do not expect the same from products made in a garage, although the price will be very similar.
I believe a well-developed product at a low price can be found from a reputable manufacturer that does not mass-produce. Our experience shows that medium-sized manufacturers are best at this: neither too large nor too small. Please note that a reputable manufacturer offering both low-cost and premium products cannot afford to damage its reputation with a cheap, poor-quality product. Doing so would harm its premium segment.
When is the best time to buy windows, doors and garage doors?
If you have time and are not in a hurry, it is worth looking at winter promotions, which usually run from late November to January. At the end of the year, manufacturers want to clear their warehouses and maximise their year-end results. This kind of incentive benefits customers. You can obtain an additional discount of a few per cent during this period.
Buy your windows, doors and garage door in one place
Buying windows, doors, garage doors and roller shutters together saves more than time. If you take a comprehensive approach and buy several products from one manufacturer, you can expect an additional discount. The more products ordered together, the greater the final discount. As well as a larger discount on windows, doors, garage doors and roller shutters, there is another benefit: a harmonious appearance for the whole house, as all these elements come from one manufacturer and have matching colours.
Affordable sliding windows
For several years, clients have been interested in HST patio doors. These lift-and-slide doors allow very large glazed areas while remaining easy to open. They offer modern construction and the highest prestige. We know that not everyone can afford a window of this class. Dako is one of the few window manufacturers that, alongside HST windows, offers two alternatives at a very affordable price.
You can choose HKS tilt-and-slide patio doors or PAS parallel-sliding patio doors. Both models are very popular with clients building modern single-family homes, and their attractive price is an obvious advantage. Windows of this type allow large glazed areas without sashes opening into the house.
The best window quotation?
We have it! Here it is: the cheapest quotation. But is it really the best? A quotation for windows and doors is a very important document. Read it carefully. Another article explained what thermal transmittance means. Now the quotation will show whether it includes things we consider obvious, but which the seller may not. If they are not listed in the quotation, it is as though they are not included. When comparing quotations, look at a few important points:- Does the quotation include the cost of delivery to the building site?
- Is an installation price given?
- Are the necessary ancillary installation materials included?
- What type of installation is offered – “warm” or “cold”?
There should be no surprises: everything should be clear and to the point, just as we all like it. I cannot imagine paying a deposit and then finding out that I have to collect the windows myself and preferably install them myself too. If you answered No to questions 1-3, it is better to move on to the next quotation.
Does cheaper mean more economical?
A house, like buying windows, is a long-term investment. Consider whether spending more on windows will allow you to save on heating, and conversely, whether buying cheaper windows will increase your future running costs. It seems certain that what we save today will cost us more in future, while the extra we pay today will pay for itself in a few years.
The most important step is to analyse the quotation in detail and check, point by point, whether an attractively priced offer will meet your expectations and the technical specifications that matter to you. Remember, too, that choosing good windows is often an expense incurred only once in a generation.
Products we particularly recommend
We often dream of timber windows, but the high price leads us to seek an alternative, and we soon choose PVC windows. This is understandable, especially as the most expensive PVC windows outperform timber windows while still being more affordable.
When choosing PVC windows, Dako DPB-82 is worth considering among the economical options. This PVC window has a 3-pane glazing unit, quite high thermal performance and an attractive price. Dako DPB-73, with a 2-pane glazing unit, is even more attractively priced.
For those who value the refined beauty of wood, we have two suggestions. Dako DDF-68 and Dako DDR-68 windows offer natural beauty at an affordable price.
